Mohan Balasubramanian has been working on cytokinesis in the fission yeast model system for many years. Over the years he has made important contributions to various aspects of cytokinesis, such as contractile assembly and function, or regulation of the Septation Initiation Pathway (SIN) pathway. More recently using S. pombe as a test-tube, he also started working on bacterial actin and tubulin-like cytoskeletal components MreB and FtsZ.
